We bought The Grange in 1997, and have slowly been restoring the property to its near original state. Period features which have been destroyed over the years have been sourced and replaced, and, if close matches can’t be found, reproductions commissioned from local craftsmen. Decoration has been carefully chosen to match the elegance of the original building and finishing touches like period furniture, sourced from fairs and auctions throughout the country.

House and Chapel during restoration, the garden is a blank canvas now the mobile classrooms have been removed

During The Second World War, The Grange was requisitioned by the Land Army during which time many fixtures and fittings, especially mirrors, were destroyed. In 1947, The Grange was sold to the Methodist Missionary Society when it became a residential school for the children of Missionaries abroad. Many of the fireplaces were boarded up, various extensions added and netball courts, mobile homes and basketball hoops took up residence in the grounds. Decor was based on the ‘brighter is better’ principle so red, yellow, green, blue and orange walls featured heavily throughout the house.

The dust finally settles...
